Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). | apologise for the delay in providing this information to you. Public safety and reducing re-offending are the ultimate goals for the Department of Corrections. In accordance with the Corrections Act 2004, we must make public safety paramount when managing offenders, and administer all sentences in a safe, secure, humane and effective manner. All prison facilities are operated in accordance with New Zealand legislation and based on other agreements, such as the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners. As stated in the Corrections Act 2004, section 161, any Member of Parliament (MP) may, whenever the member considers it appropriate, enter a prison and examine it and the condition of the prisoners, and may inform the prison manager of his or her observations. You have requested how many visits and on what dates Kelvin Davis visited Corrections Facilities since 2014. You have also requested alll other visits made by MP's since 2014. Please find attached a table at Appendix One which details information regarding MP visits since 2014, Please be aware this is not an exhaustive list as the Department does not record this information centrally, however we have been able to locate some MP visit details which have been compiled into the attached table. Please be aware this list does not include any visits by the current or former Minister of Corrections. You have further requested the convictions of the prisoners Mr Davis has visited since 2014. The convictions come under the broad categories of murder, manslaughter, violence, dishonesty, drug supply, kidnapping and escape.
