Sam Westing Obituary

Sam Westing was found dead in the Westingtown mansion. He was 65 years old and
an industrialist. It was a surprise to see him again because he had disappeared 13 years
before.
Westings parents were immigrants and he was an only (orphaned) child. The little
self-educated boy bought a small paper mill and then made Westing Paper Products. He
also founded Westingtown. His estate is worth over two hundred million dollars.
He had never drank, smoked, nor gambled But, he was a dedicated gamesman and a
master at chess.
Samuel was known and even famous for his fun Fourth of July celebrations. He dressed
up and acted roles in stage pageants he directed and wrote. He would set off fireworks
from his front lawn that could be viewed thirty miles away.
His only daughter, Violet Westing, drowned on the eve on her wedding day. Only two
years later his troubled wife left their home. He never remarried.
Five years later he was sued by an inventor for the rights to the disposable paper
diaper. On his way to court, him and Dr. Sidney Sikes were in a near fatal car accident.
Thats when Westing disappeared from sight.
There was a rumor that he controlled his company from a private island in the South
Seas. However, it was only a rumor and never confirmed.
Julian. R. Eastman was the president and Chief Executive Officer of Westings
Corporation. A spokesman for Eastman said this when he was informed that Sam was
found dead, We are as surprised as you are a deeply saddened.
