Barcode readers

A barcode is an optical machine readable representation of

data relating to the object to which it is attached. Originally
barcodes systematically represented data by varying the widths
and spacings of parallel lines, and may be referred to as linear
or one dimensional 1D. Later they evolved into rectangles dots
hexagons and other geometric patterns in two dimensions 2D.
Although 2D systems use a variety of symbols they are
generally referred to as barcodes as well. Barcodes originally
were scanned by special optical scanners called barcode
readers. Later scanners and interpretive software became
available on devices including desktop printers and
smartphones.

Magnetic strip readers

A magnetic stripe card is a type of card capable of storing data
by modifying the magnetism of tiny iron based magnetic
particles on a band of magnetic material on the card. The
magnetic stripe sometimes called swipe card or magnetic strip
is read by swiping past a magnetic reading head. Magnetic
stripe cards are commonly used in credit cards identity cards
and transportation tickets. They may also contain an RFID tag a
transponder device and or a microchip mostly used for business
premises access control or electronic payment.

Optical character readers

OCR optical character recognition is the recognition of printed
or written text characters by a computer. This involves photo
scanning of the text character by character analysis of the
scanned-in image and then translation of the character image
into character codes such as ASCII commonly used in data
processing.

Optical mark readers

Optical Mark reading OMR is a method of entering made
in predefined positions on paper forms as responses to

questions or tick list prompts. Data into a computer system.

Optical Mark Readers reads pencil or pen marks .

Radio frequency ID
Radiofrequency identification RFID is the wireless use of
electromagnetic fields to transfer data for the purposes of
automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects.
The tags contain electronically stored information. Some tags
are powered by electromagnetic induction from magnetic fields
produced near the reader. Some types collect energy from the
interrogating radio waves and act as a passive transponder.
