Wendy was assigned the role of Site Coordinator for the BRIDGES Over Howard County -21* Century Community Learning Center Program (215CCLC) at Swansfield Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year. The 21 CCLC Program is a federally funded out of school time program for students who are living in poverty and/or struggling academically. The program offers academically enriching activities to targeted students using creative, innovative methods to meet the diverse needs of the students As the Site Coordinator, Ms. Kanter co -leads the program and provides leadership, supervision and oversight of the $59,000 budgeted program. In collaboration with school administration and the other Site Coordinator, she is responsible for recruiting and retaining students and staff, setting the vision for the program, working collaboratively with school day and out of school time teachers and community partners, while meeting the reporting requirements of the grant. Ms. Kanter has grown in her leadership position as evidenced by creative problem solving, use of constructive feedback and clearly setting the vision of the program with stakeholder input. Ms. Kanter is a professional who is interested in continuing her education. She recently attended a national conference and implemented strategies learned at the conference into the program. Ms. Kanter’s willingness to keep the students’ needs a priority while leading staff to find creative solutions to meeting those needs is impressive.
