My process of writing
English is one of the most difficult subjects to understand in terms of writing. Prior to
entering college I procrastinated a lot and I did not really care about the effort I put into my
papers. I had trouble starting my essays due to having several ideas splattered all over the place
and I felt that my analysis would be weak. Since graduating from high school I had anxiety
because I did not know how the college instructors would grade and teach students. However,
my English 113A and 113B class proved to be a spectacular experience. The professors of each
class assigned a variety of assignments to enhance students morality, writing and critical
thinking skills. With these assignments I gained the motivation and cherishment of writing.
Although both semesters of English proved to be extremely difficult, my English professors
helped me improve as a writer by giving me the right tools.
In the first semester of English, I learned how to write topic sentences and types of essays
that are common in college. Before entering this college level class my topic sentences and
essays were decent. I wrote my topic sentences immediately without reading it back. Once I
entered this semester in English 113A my English professor, Jackie Hymes, taught the class three
important types of essays that are Narrative, Rhetorical, and Analytical. During this semester I
learned how to elaborate more on my writing and structure it better. I worked on grammar,
consistency, and receiving feedback to improve my writing. I used my prior knowledge from
before to implement it into my college level writing. Writing seemed a lot easier because

Professor Jackie taught me to think outside the box. I learned how concrete details really helped
me prove my topic sentences. Since my first semester of English was a success, the challenges
for the second semester were well prepared.
In the second semester of English, I went into more detailed challenges as a writer. My
English 113B professor, Professor Griffith, taught the class how to use credible sources and use
our critical thinking skills. There were three essays this semester that required critical thinking
and lots of research. The first one is called Project Web which the curriculum required for the
students to describe how technology has changed over a long period of time. This project was a
great experience to write about because I like to back up my topic with credible evidence. The
second one was called Project Space which I had to write about outer space during the cold war.
This one required more critical thinking because there was a lot of time put into this work to
make it the best. The third and final essays were Project Text which proved to be the most
difficult because it had been awhile since I wrote an essay about literary text. Professor Griffith
gave me suggestions to break apart the prompt she gave us and put the pieces together to form
your essay. Since I learned a lot from both semesters of English, it builds my confidence as a
writer.
As my writing skills grew from both semesters, I grew attach to the English Language
and I gained confidence as a writer. Since my writings skills were growing, I needed to like the
subject and had a happy feeling growing attached to it. Slowly, but effectively practicing English
makes me more comfortable to go all out on my essays. With all the effort I put in, I could not
see myself ever turning back on writing. Towards the end of my first year English, writing was
becoming a hobby in my learning experience. Writing seemed to be coming to a close for now.

Writing is an essential tool in my life. I improved drastically throughout this semester and
seen the improvements of my writing. I have a better understanding of English than I have ever
before. I know there is always room for improvement and I am up for that challenge. The PEER
Review and Individual review that I got from my classmates and professors helped better my
writing. Overall, both semesters were good, and I enjoyed it.
