Week 7 Focus Child Observation: 18/9/13

Flynn
-

Enjoys rough play but often scares off the other children
Is a very hands on learner and uses his hands and body to explore new things
Enjoys playing with other children
Enjoys climbing through the back of high chairs and often creates tunnels
Likes playing with big objects he can pick up and move around
Gross/fine motor skills are quite developed
Like loud noises and noisy objects
Fairly developed motor skills and is able to throw/catch well

Observational notes: Flynn is often rough with the children as this is how is likes to play and
learn. The other children arent as interested in rough and tumble play so this can scare
them off. When Flynn is introduced to new objects he explores these through touch, and
sometimes runs them across his body. He is a very kinaesthetic learner and explores the
world around him through his senses.
Focused observation lesson: For Flynns focused observation lesson I have tried to
incorporate what I have learnt about his interests, way of learning and the other children. I
am going to bring in a giant foam bowling set for the toddlers to play with. Through this
Flynn can involve himself with the children in a game where they can throw the big foam
ball and knock down the pins, he can jump on the foam pins and involve in some rough and
tumble play without the risk of hurting other children. Further developing is motor skills.
Theorists: Social interaction leads to development; children may learn to throw/catch while
playing with Flynn. Partens stages of play, Flynn may be at higher levels than other children,
he may be at level 5-6 whereas they could be in the stages 1-4.
