Hey, its Christy again and youre going to love this training video J
In the last video we answered the top 10 questions and misperceptions about coaching.
Plus we discussed some of the benefits of being a life coach and how a coaching practice is just
A simple Business that changes lives
Well in this video were going continue our training and education by building a rock-solid
foundation. Youre going to learn exactly what coaching is, the benefits, the opportunity and the
traits that most successful coaches have in common.
So, let me first ask you this. . .
What if you had the chance to build your own successful business by helping others?
What if you could do really well financially, by also doing a lot of good?
Well that is what life coaching is all about and that is what you can experience.
If youre ready,
Then lets get going!
It doesnt matter how clients got where they are or who is to blame for how they turned out.
Coaching is about where an individual is right now, and where they would like to be. We as
coaches help them build that bridge to get them from here to there.
With a coach as their guide, clients are able to
Define their dreams recognize whats holding them back and move forward with great
momentum and clarity of vision.
Coaching is an ongoing partnership between coach and client designed to improve and
enhance the clients quality of life.
Lets take a closer look at the coach/client relationship.
Heres a short list of what coaches DO do with their clients
The Coaches:
ww The first thing is to set appropriate boundaries and policies
ww Let the client determine the agenda for each session
ww Listen to the client on multiple levels continually
ww Ask powerful direct questions
ww Genuinely appreciate, endorse and support the client
ww Assist in setting goals, planning and strategizing.
ww Give perspectives, options and suggestions to create awareness and inspire the client to
come to their own solutions.
ww Make powerful requests to deepen the clients process between sessions.
Now, heres some things that coaches DO NOT do with their clients
ww Diagnose, treat or fix; we do not fix, no fixing.
ww Manipulate or take advantage of the client relationship
ww Take responsibility for the clients feelings, decisions, actions or success.
ww Give advice. We dont want to give advice.
ww Do the clients work for them. They have to take responsibility and they have to do
their own work. For instance if you go to the gym and you hire a personal trainer they
cannot workout for you so you can create your ideal body. The client has to do this
while the trainer guides them.
ww Work with a client when the coachs integrity says its not right anymore.
Historically, there have always been coaches of some sort in society. It might have been the
town priest, the shaman, an elder (grandfather, uncle) or some other mentor relationship. Prior to
the evolution of the coach training programs like the QSCA, coaching was a term primarily used
in the arts (voice coaches, drama coaches), athletics, and the corporate world. Many executives
hired outside consultants as coaches or mentors to give them an outside and unbiased view of
their business life and get help with their personal life as well.
Now, coaching is seen as both valuable and convenient to the general public for assistance in
total life coaching.
Due to the formal training available to prospective coaches, who come from a variety of
disciplines and work experience, the general public can now find a personal coach who is
well trained to assist them in achieving their big goals and desires in their personal or their
professional life.
And, you know what . . .
Coaching is growing. As more people recognize the need for inspiration and guidance, the
more they see coaching as a method of gaining self-confidence and moving towards a higher
aspiration.
There is a huge demand right now for coaches.
Coaching is becoming even more mainstream.
People are understanding that if they want to improve their lives, have accountability, and get
to the next level, that having a coach is going to help them do that.
There is a huge demand right now.
So if you want to make great money doing what you love,
The majority of coaches (about 25,000) are found in the United States.
Compare this to the legal profession: according to the American Bar Association, there are more
than 1 million practicing attorneys in the U.S.
It would appear that there are far more potential coaching clients than individuals needing legal
counsel.
The demand for coaches continues to grow as coaching becomes known to more and more
people.
According to the ICF study and what Ive witnessed personally with QSCA graduates, coaches
have seen a significant rise in the number of clients they service. According to responses to the
ICF study, nearly 60 percent of coaches said they had experienced an increase in clients. Data
also shows increases in the amount of coaching sessions being given and in the annual income
received from coaching services.
In addition, more than three out of four coaches reported that they expect the increases in
clients and annual revenue to continue in the coming year. Roughly 62 percent of coaches also
expect their number of coaching sessions to increase.
The ICF president, Janet M. Harvey, had this to say
Amidst the current global financial crisis, coaches everywhere are still seeing an increase in
clients and coaching generated income. What is also especially encouraging, results show that
these current trends are expected to rise even more.
And its no wonder that coaching continues do grow.
A 2014 Global Coaching Client Study conducted on behalf of the International Coach Federation
found that of those individuals who had received coaching
ww 80% saw improved self-confidence
ww 73% saw improved relationships
ww 72% saw improved communication skills
ww 70% saw improved work performance
ww 61% saw improved business management
ww 57% saw improved time management
ww 51% saw improved team performance
And of those surveyed, 99% indicated that they were somewhat or fully satisfied with their
coaching experience and 96% said they would do it again.
Now thats job security J
So why has coaching become so popular in the last few years?
Why didnt it exist before?
An article in The Washington Post in June 2003 talked about the many who are skipping the
shrink and hiring a life coach instead.
Patrick Williams, former psychologist and founder of the Institute for Life Coach Training,
estimates that 80 percent of those seeing a therapist have no mental disorder.
Coaching does not wallow in the past. It is not about how you got to where you are, or whos
responsible for how you turned out.
It is about where you are now, where you want to be, and how to get there quickly.
Coaching is about taking action, and many times all someone really needs is an accountability
partner
in order to live the life he or she has always wanted.
You are needed in the coaching profession because our society needs help, and it needs it in a
unique and specialized way.
Life coaches are more than friends with whom to share problems.
They are a sounding board for solutions to the challenges we face on a daily basis.
They are mentors in some cases, cheerleaders in others. They are part consultant, part family.
The amount you decide to charge will depend less on how long youve been coaching, and more
on the types of clients you work with and what you can do for them.
You can look forward to earning
$100,000 and up when serving some of the specialty niches.
Your financial success will depend on your ability to take consistent action, and your willingness
to treat your practice as a business.
The field of coaching is in its youth, and it is growing rapidly.
Considering that just about everyone can benefit from having his or her own coach, the number
of new coaches needed over the next few years will multiply drastically.
How do you know if you would be a good coach?
This brings me to the third and final point:
The traits that most successful coaches have in common.
Would you be a good coach?
Maybe?
It would be irresponsible of me to say that EVERYONE can be a coach.
In fact, being a coach isnt right for everyone.
But
With a little training, guidance, and commitment, you can achieve your goals of being a wildly
successful life coach.
To be a good coach, you will also need a strong, ongoing commitment to your own personal
awareness and growth.
As with all other types of coaching, you need to possess and continue to develop coaching skills
and tools.
Most successful coaches have these traits in common:
ww A huge love for and desire to help people
ww Great listening skills (both for the spoken and unspoken)
ww A willingness to consistently stand in truth
ww A strong blend of loving-kindness and the ability to compassionately

Another advantage is that you can ease into coaching by doing it part-time at first.
You dont have to quit your day job (nor is that recommended), and you can gradually get a good
feel for the profession.
Consider that coaching may just be your calling in life like it is mine.
Take some time to imagine what your life would be like if you were a successful life coach.
And make sure you watch the rest of the videos in this series.
They will teach you exactly how to achieve that goal.
Well, thats it for todays video lesson. I hope you enjoyed it.
At this point, you should have a very strong understanding of coaching and the opportunity
thats available to you right now.
And Im sure youre now asking yourself, How do go from giving free advice to being a
powerfulcoach?
Well, thats what our next video is all about. Were going to solve the problem of going from
someone who gives good advice to actually being a powerful and effective coach. You certainly
dont want to miss it J
By the way Id love it if you took a second to leave me your feedback below and if you really
