CATCHING HOPE

Act 1, Scene 1
This takes place in front of Bradford High School where two girls are waiting patiently
for their friend to arrive so they try to entertain themselves while waiting.
IZZIE:
Freshman year wow who knew we would make it this far they say high school is
suppose to be the best 4 years of our lives
SCARLET:
I sure hope so Izzie. Where is Eric? He said he would be here 20 minutes ago and it's
been ages

She checks her watch.

IZZIE:
Oh relax he will be here any moment but while we wait(pulls out phone) first day of
freshman year selfie.
SCARLET:
No no no we are not doing this again can we just go I'm tired of waiting you know hes
always late for everything
IZZIE:
I know I know okay we can go (starts walking)
ERIC:
Wait wait up you guys! I told you to wait for me
SCARLET AND IZZIE:
We did!!! You took too long
ERIC:
I was here just walked slower than usual
(Scarlet and Izzie look at each other.)
SCARLET AND IZZIE:

ERIC:
Whatever can we just go
IZZIE:
Okay, lets go.
Eric,Scarlet and Izzie walks down the hall admiring the new school. They go to their
assigned locker. Bastille-Pompeii begins.

(Izzie opens the locker)

ERIC:

SCARLET:

ERIC:

IZZIE:
Really again you guys can we just go to first period the bell is gonna ring

ERIC AND SCARLET:

(After they walk off the stage izzie turns.)

IZZIE:

Act 1, scene 2
(the setting is now in a high school classroom while the children wait for the teacher to
arrive)

SCARLET:
Where is the teacher?

ERIC:
How am I supposed to know Ive been with you the majority of the day

SCARLET:
You dont need to get an attitude with me Im just asking.

ERIC:
Okay and Im just saying.

IZZIE:
Will you two stop arguing for once you act like a married couple.

SCARLET AND ERIC:

We do not!

IZZIE:
You sure about that?

SCARLET:
Umm yea you know I still like james

IZZIE:
Okay

ERIC:
Scarlet you guys broke up last year let it goooo
SCARLET:
You wouldn't understand love if it walked right past you
(A girl walks past with a angry expression on but Eric looks at her upsettingly.)

ERIC:
You have no idea
(The girl walks back to where Eric and the girls are and taps Izzie shoulder)

UNKNOWN GIRL:
Excuse me
IZZIE:
yes
UNKNOWN GIRL:
Im hope
(She looks at eric then back at Izzie.)

IZZIE:

Umm hi. I'm Izzie

HOPE:
Well Izzie we seem to have a problem
IZZIE:
Okay?
HOPE:

IZZIE:
But it's the first day how could I possibly be in your seat and I got here first
HOPE:
Maybe you're new here but everyone knows me and whatever I claim that's
what I get
IZZIE:

(Hope looks away and she landed eyes on eric who had his head down ever since she
got there and she smiled.)

HOPE:
Hi Eric
(Eric looks up and then back down)

HOPE:
No words you didn't have a problem with talking to me yesterday
IZZIE:
What is she talking about

ERIC:

HOPE:
You don't have to lie we are all friends here
ERIC:
Hope can you just go we don't want or need any of your drama

(Hope flips her hair and walk to the other side of the classroom with one last look at Eric
and the girls)

SCARLET:

ERIC:
Nothing she's just someone I meet over the summer and we hung out a
few times but she was always so
IZZIE:

ERIC:

(Scarlet and Izzie rolls their eyes and the teacher comes in and suddenly the kids are

ACT 1, SCENE 3
(Izzie,Eric and Scarlet walks back out and sits on bench outside for lunch)

ERIC:
Why is school lunch so unknown
(Eric plays with his sandwich.)

SCARLET:
I don't know but if you don't want it I do
ERIC:
Yea like I would give you my food no matter how much the taste rotten my
mouth I will still eat it
IZZIE:
You guys really need to work out your problems because this(points to both
of them) gotta stop
ERIC:
This is us being friends just friends with different perspectives of things
SCARLET:
Yeah we don't mean everything we say to each other I still adore his weird
personality(roffles Eric hair)
ERIC:
I adore you too dork
SCARLET:
Heyyyyy

(They all laugh but stop when they hear a familiar voice belonging to hope so they got
up and slowly walked towards her)

HOPE:
Then he defended her even after everything we been through I thought he
would at least take my side over that girl
(Hope is now talking to her brother Adam and her bestfriend Bay)

ADAM:
Hope give it a rest you guys don't know what you are now Er.
(Hope looked at her brother curious as to why he stop talking she turned around and
Scarlet,Izzie and Eric was right behind her Hope huffs and puffs.)

HOPE:

Are you really gonna pretend like I didn't hear you talking bout me and Eric
I understand that guys were friends over the summer but that doesn't mean
take it out on me.
(Hope looks at eric and signs but she hide it and put a disgusted expression on.)

HOPE:
I dont know what he told you but that wasnt the story now was it Eric.
ERIC:

HOPE:

(Bay did not know the situation that was happening she was too busy looking at her
phone.)

BAY:

HOPE:
Can you tell our friends here what really happened?
(Bay looks over at Eric and the girls.)

BAY:
O hey Eric how your day going
(Everyone looks at Bay and her expression is confused)

BAY:
Whats going on?
(Hope rolls her eyes)

HOPE:
Anyway you was in my seat I tried to handle it civilly but you couldnt handle
it end of story bye bye now
IZZIE:
If you wanna speak literally their are 30 seats in the class their was only 5
students so u have 25 seats to choose from yet you wanted mine so if
anyone should have been more civil about the situation it should be you
(Izzie,Scarlet walks away.)

IZZIE:
Eric you coming
ERIC:
Yeah just give me a second

(Izzie looks at Hope the back at Eric and gives a smile and nod)
ADAM:
Well Imma leave you guys to talk come on Bay
BAY:
Sure if you buy me lunch
(Adam rubs his face)
ADAM:
Fine lets go
BAY:

(Adam laughs while they walk together.)

ADAM:

BAY:

ADAM:

(Walks offstage.)

HOPE:
What happen between us this morning you was fine now your looking down

ERIC:

wanna disappoint them

(After the lunch incident Izzie left scarlet to go to her locker but she runs into a boy and
they fall together)

IZZIE:
Omg I am so sorry I was just going to my locker and I didnt mean to I
swear
(The unknown boy laughs)

UNKNOWN BOY:
Its okay at least you know not to run in the halls now Im Mark
(They looked at each other )

IZZIE:
Hi.Im Izzie

MARK:
So why are you in a rush
IZZIE:
No reason just needed a break from my friends
(Akward silence)

MARK:
..Well maybe we could have a break together
IZZIE:
Well I guess
MARK:
Okay cool were do you want to go?
IZZIE:
Well I guess we could just walk around and get to know the school a little
better
MARK:

IZZIE:
Cool so did you just move here

MARK:
No ive been homeschooled for most of my life
Izzie:
