From the Principal...

Tn koutou katoa,
Welcome to Term 2 at Kerikeri Primary School.
Another busy term of learning is underway and it is
great to see the children and staff back refreshed and
ready to go! This term we welcome Miss Rebecca
Young who has opened a new entrant class in Room
9. We also welcome Mrs Denise Barrington who
is taking on the role of 'Targeted Intervention for
Accelerated Achievement' Teacher. This means Mrs
Barrington will be working with teachers and learners
to support new and innovative ways to accelerate the
progress of children who are not achieving desired
levels in Literacy or Numeracy.

Congratulations to our Kerikeri Primary School Lit Quiz

team who won the Northland Heat in the Year 6 Division
of the Annual National Lit Quiz Competition this week.

Accelerated Literacy Learning (ALL): This year we

are taking part in a Ministry of Education ALL initiative.
Mrs Rosemary Murphy and Miss Alice NicholsonByers are our ALL teachers. The Ministry of Education
is supporting them to adopt approaches to accelerate
learner progress. They are trialing these with a target
group of children, aiming to spread the successful
practices across the school and to ultimately support
all teachers in accelerating learner progress.

Our winners are: Lauren Jackson, Jade Sceats, Cameron Willis, Zoe Ackers, Analise Barnett-Moody and Joe
Lankshear.

ART ATTACK: We have scheduled a schoolwide

Visual Art focus for Week 4 Term 2 from Monday
23rd to Thursday 26th May. We will be creating a
range of artworks for the school environment and
would love your help. Managing large numbers of
small children with paint and art supplies is quite an
undertaking so if you have some time you can spare
to be rostered on to support a teacher and group of
children we would love to hear from you!

Please see Page 2 of this newsletter for more information on the upcoming cross country events and
other child-led initiatives that are happening on in
the school. Dont miss the Choc Chip Cookie Student
Leader fundraiserthey are raising funds to support
the purchase of unicycles for the school.

A big thank you goes to Mrs Sharlene Muller who guided these young enthusiastic readers into becoming
winners on the day. Sharlenes son, Andrew, was one of
the overall winners on the Kerikeri High School team as
well. Well done!
