Speaker: Hielke Van Doorslaer
Introduction:
Oxfam is an international confederation of 15 organizations working in more than 90
countries worldwide to find lasting solutions to poverty and related injustice around
the world. In all Oxfams actions, the ultimate goal is to enable people to exercise
their rights and manage their own lives. Oxfam works directly with communities and
seeks to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives
and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them. Each organization
(Affiliate) works together internationally to achieve a greater impact through collective
efforts.
Introduction:
Atlas Copco develop innovative sustainable solutions that create value for their
customers in more than 180 countries.
Their expertise is in compressors, vacuum solutions and air treatment systems,
construction and mining equipment, power tools and assembly systems.
Atlas Copco is a 143-year-old company. They are well-known for their professional
leaders, their high ethical standards and business practices, and for our great
products and service.
Atlas Copco has more than 43 000 employees in 92 countries. In 2015 revenues
reached 102 billion Swedish kronor and the operating margin was 19.3%.
Why I chose this topic:
Atlas Copco is an international organization working almost in the whole world in
different sectors. I know this organization before, they have done in our country
Afghanistan. Specially in the agricultural sector.
What I have learnt:
I learn how people work together in international team. How they appreciate each
other language, religion, culture, food eating style, cooperation within the team. How
to focus on communication, arranging meetings, travelling with different employees
from different countries, ootb meetings, online meetings, face to face meetings within
the organization or outside the organization.
Part Two
Critical reading
While reading the book there was a sentence that struck me as true. Since the
second world war there is a growing sense among Tajik Intelligentsia of their kinship
with the Tajiks of Afghanistan and even with Shia Iranians. Yes, exactly Afghan Tajiks
have relations with Tajiks, even they speak the same language wears the same
cloths, the same foods. Most of Afghan Tajiks visiting Tajikistan in Eid ul Fitr (Muslim
Christmas twice a year) and they are coming for Nawroz(first day of the year) to
Afghanistan celebrate their new year in Afghanistan with Afghan Tajiks.
I did not agree with writer in this statement that (the Tajiks are the most religious
people in the central Asian nationalities. I completely disagree with this statement.
Afghan specially Pashtun are the most religious people in the region. Thats why
Afghans started jihad against Russia and got freedom from the Russia.
What might be missing in this book. the fact of central Asian culture that they are
known by Mehman Nawazi (People who love to have guest) in Afghan culture is very
important to build guest house before building a house for themselves.
I think the author did not write important cultural aspects of central Asian culture he
focusses more on war and freedom the readers do not understand clearly. I think the
author should put more focus on Afghanistan and Tajikistan cultural differences and
similarities.
