Washington, D.C. (May 23, 2016) -- The Vince Gray 2016 campaign released the following response from Vince Gray about today's Washington Post editorial: When I met with the Washington Post to discuss the Ward 7 D.C. Council election I began the interview by asking Editorial Board members if any of them had ever visited Ward 7 to speak with residents about their concerns and ideas for progress. The room fell silent until someone muttered, "No." The residents of Ward 7 deserve a better hometown newspaper than the Post. Our campaign alerted the media when the 2016 homicide rate was on the rise. We alerted the media when homicides had doubled. Now homicides in Ward 7 have tripled. Finally, the Post found space for an article on the subject. The same can be said for D.C. Council member Alexander, whose "disappointing performance" the Post accurately points out. Alexander did nothing when homicides doubled. When they tripled her response was to request a "plan" by tweeting at the chief of police. The residents of Ward 7 deserve a better Council member and they deserve a newspaper that cares about us. Lastly, the Post is surely no "newspaper of record." The Post uses its own erroneous conclusions to justify its role disseminating propaganda in the 2014 election. Rather than admit a mistake, the Post has chosen to double down on perpetuating injustice. ###
