Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is strategically growing its research and teaching
programs. It is expected that the new appointment will build the departmental expertise in one of
the following chosen areas:
Biomechanics: musculoskeletal modelling and mechanobiology;
Fluid Mechanics: turbulent flows and computational mechanics;
Thermodynamics: Conventional and alternative fuel combustion, control of powertrains,
energy systems;
Autonomous Systems transportation, intelligent vehicles, advanced manufacturing and
robotics.
As the successful candidate, you will be expected to play a leading role in contributing to the
teaching and research program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and to enhance
interdisciplinary research within the School and the University in collaboration with external
organisations. You will, independently and as a member of the team, work on all four pillars of
an academic career by pursuing internationally leading research, teaching and teaching
innovation, engagement with industry and other partner institutions, and taking on leadership
roles within the University.
The University plan seeks to increase the diversity of the workforce and the representation of
women in areas they have been traditionally under-represented. Consistent with this, the School
is seeking to increase the representation of women in the academic workforce across
engineering disciplines. Under a Special Measure, under Section 12 (1) of the Equal
Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) the School is seeking to lift the representation of women from 20% in
2014 to at least 25% over the next 5 years, and strongly encourages applications from suitably
qualified female candidates.
