Hotel Rwanda

What is Hotel Rwanda about?

Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu, manages the Hotel des Mille Collines and has a wife, who
is Tutsi, and three children. When the violence and killing escalates Paul is forced to protect his
family and hundreds of Tutsi refugees. With little to no help from the UN and outside world
powers he has to protect the people in the hotel from killers, event later known as the Rwandan
Genocide.
Did you like the movie?

Out of five stars I would give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked the
movie. It gave me a visual of what was taking place in Rwanda. Also it was such an
on edge movie. You never knew who would survive. When the killers would come
back to kill, or how long Paul would be able to hold off the killers with alcohol and

money and limited protection.

Left to Tell
What is Left to Tell about?
Immaculee Ilibagiza lived in Rwanda with her mother, father, and three
brothers. When the genocide breaks out in Rwanda Ilibagiza goes into hiding with
eight women in a small bathroom by the end of three months. It is the story of how
Ilibagiza clinged to God to keep her safe through the slaughtering. After the
genocide she continued having a strong relationship with God to pull her through
realization that virtually no one from her family survived. She was able to stay
strong and survive the genocide and her emotions through her faith.
Did you like the book?
Out of five stars I would give Left to Tell three and half out of five stars. The
book was very inspiring on how immaculee survived the genocide and all she had
was her faith. Her story on how her and five other women survived in a bathroom
for three months. Her mental and spiritual strength that she had, portrayed in the
book, is amazingly strong. To be able to survive a genocide with virtually no family
left and be able to move on is very powerful.

How Do They Relate?

Both the book and movie have a close relationship. Both stories are about
surviving a horrific event and flourishing from it. Paul was able to protect over 1,000
Tutsi and moderate Hutu refugees from the killers. Immaculee was able to survive
and pull through and continue her future and move on from her haunted past. Both
stories I found very inspiring of what these people went through and how they were
able to pull through. Two different people, two different stories, one disaster.
