fortunate.JesseJacksonwasanadvocateforchangeintheSouth.

JesseJacksonwouldalwaysseeadeeperpicture,whetheritwasaboutlife,school,orjust

asimplegameatschool.OnethingIrememberaboutJessewashisinquisitiveness.Healways
usedtoaskwhy.Hequestionedtherulesatatimewheneverybodyelsehadacceptedthem

whynotbecausehewasanadvocateforchange.HewouldwonderwhyamIgettingpaidless
moneyforfootballwhenIamthebetterplayer?Orwhycouldntblackshaveavoiceinpolitics?

JesseJacksonwasdeterminedineverythingheaccomplished,fromschool,tofootball,to

family,tohisdesegregationprojects.WhetheryouelectmeornotImgoingtorun.Iamthe
candidate(Haskins22).Jesseknewthathecouldnotwinateverythinghestrivedforbuthewas
alwaysdeterminedtotry.HecalleduponCongressforastrongerCivilRightsActtoendracial

discriminationinpublicfacilitiesandemployment(Haskins38).JesseJacksonunderstoodthe
timeshelivedinbutstillstrivedtobecomeavoiceforAfricanAmericansandforAfrican
Americanequality.

JesseJacksonwentthroughmanyeventsthatshapedhimintotheCivilRightsleaderhe

istoday.ThefirsteventishisfirstpublicspeechaboutAfricanAmericaninequality.Herewas
anunknown,inexperienced,23yearoldsuddenlytakingover.Yettherewassomethingabout
himJacksonwasamovingspeaker(Haskins43).Thiseventhelpedhimbecomesomeoneto
thenationitalsoboostedhiscredibility.AnothereventwasthedeathofhispartnerDr.Martin
LutherKingJr.AfterhisdeathJacksonwasconstantlyaskedtocarryonhisdreamandspeakon
hisbehalf.InthebeginninghewasgettingnegativeenergypushedonhimbyCityHall.
Jacksonwaspreparedforthenewrolehehadsuddenlyassumedinthenationseyes.Nowhe
was,indeedsomebodyandcouldwieldmoreinfluencenotjustlocallybutnationally
(Haskins57).Jacksonfinallywasabletoachievethenationalcredibilityheneeded.

JesseJacksonwasanadvocateforchangeandalwayswantedblackstobeincludedinthe

nation'sdecisions,thiswastheircountryandtheyshouldhaveasayinwhathappens.Ifthe
worlddidnothaveJesseJacksonIbelieveDr.MartinLutherKingJr.sdreamwouldhavedied
andnooneelsecouldhavebeenabletosaveit.Ialsobelievetheworldwouldstillhaveracial
separations,likeblackandwhiteschools,waterfountains,andbathrooms.
