Children aged between 5 and 17 should be
participating in at least 60 minutes of moderate
to vigorous exercise each day!
Currently, less than one half of 5 to 17 year olds
in Queensland are meeting the recommended 60
minutes of exercise everyday!

WHY ARE CHILDREN


PHYSICALLY INACTIVE?
Children are becoming more inactive as the
advancement of technology increases. The amount of
time spent using screen-based appliances both in and
outside the classroom has increased dramatically!
Many children in Australia have at least one screenbased appliance in their bedrooms, allowing the use of
screens before going to bed and throughout the day.

EFFECTS FOR CHILDREN WHO


ARE PHYSICALLY INACTIVE
Children who do not participate in physical activity run the risk of
various health problems in the future. These include;
Obesity Children can become overweight due to lack of
exercise and increase in sedentary behaviour
Change in sleep patterns and loss Children who engage
in more screen time can
Unusual brain activity Constant use of screen-based
appliances can cause unusual brain activity
Mental and emotional issues increase in weight may
cause problems for children's mental and emotional health

Fun ways to fill your 60 minutes!
Walking your dog
Play sports with friends
Have a skipping competition
Go swimming
Walk to and from school

Dancing to your favourite music


Practising gymnastics routines
Having running races with your siblings
Kicking a ball with friends
And even making an obstacle course!
There are many fun ways to fill in your 60 minutes of
