I learned that Children tend to lash out more than
usual when they are in foster care.
I learned that as of fiscal year 2003, approximately
one-fifth of the approximately half million foster
children in the USA are awaiting adoptive or other
permanent placement; of this number, 50 362
children were adopted in 2003.

Data from the recent National Survey of Child

and Adolescent Wellbeing (NSCAW) indicate
that almost half (48%) of the youths (aged
214 years) in the study who had some
involvement with the child welfare system (not
necessarily placement into foster care)
displayed clinical-range behavioural difficulties
as measured by the CBCL.

The study findings suggest that adopted foster
youth are more behaviourally impaired than
their non-foster adoptive counterparts,

number of physical and mental health
problems.

Previously, caregivers have reported difficulty

in providing health care because of having
limited or no knowledge of the health history of
the youth's biological family and, therefore,
may not be good sources of health information
for healthcare providers.
