CHEM 30015: Advanced

Practical Chemistry (2016)

Experimental Design
Presentation

Modification:
PC-1 Dynamic light Scattering
Aim : To find the most efficient micelle forming polymer at pH ranges 8-6
(human body) by comparing two different pH-responsive polymer
Previously polymer used : PNIPAM(thermo-responsive) and PEG-B-PDEAEMA polymer
(pH-responsive)
Modified polymer used: PDEAEMA (pH-responsive) and (PDAEMA) (pH-responsive)

PDEAEMA

Poly(2-diethylaminoethyl) methacrylate

PDAEMA

Poly(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) methacrylate

More micelle forms = increases the amount of the drug

it can carries

Further studies: Can the selected polymers penetrate

against our cell membrane
Why?
1. This smart polymers can be used to aid drug delivery (insulin) transforming them
(glucose-pH responsive polymer).
2. We could study it performance in an artificial cell membrane (ACM) We inject
these polymer, outside these cell membrane
3. Will the polymer be able to penetrate its phospholipid bi-layer of the cell
membrane to delivers drug inside How long does it take to penetrate.
