The follow ing are new featu res in this release.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 offers a flexible and d ynam ic w ay to com bine d ata
from m u ltip le d ata tables in the sam e visu alization. Data m ay be at
d ifferent aggregation levels and filtering m ay be ap p lied on the d ata
tables sep arately.
Subset Comparison
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has the ability to d isp lay d ifferent su bsets of d ata at
the sam e tim e in one visu alization. For exam p le, show ing both u nfiltered
d ata and filtered d ata, to com p are how they relate to each other .
The bu ilt-in ed itor for cu stom exp ressions and scrip ts is in TIBCO
Sp otfire 5.5 enhanced w ith syntax highlighting that m akes it easier to
create and m aintain exp ressions and scrip ts. The exp ression ed itor
su p p orts context sensitive au tocom p lete fu nctionality .
With Sp otfire 5.5, title texts in visu alizations and p ages are now
d ynam ic in the sense that they can be configu red so that p arts of the text
are show ing valu es that are u p d ated som ew here else in the d ocu m ent.
With TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 it is now p ossible to control the transp arency of
visu alization item s, su ch as m arkers and lines, in several visu alization
typ es.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 offers several op tions on how to d isp lay a d etails
visu alization w hen no d ata has been m arked in the visu alizations

controlling the content of the d etails visu alization. For exam p le, a text
m essage can be show n.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has a new visu al effect for m arking in visu alizations
that p reserves the color for the m arked item s, and fad es the non -m arked
item s.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has a re-d esigned start p age that inclu d es som e
u sefu l shortcu ts like easy access to recently u sed files and search for files
in the library.
Data Connections
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts saving d ata connections and / or their d ata
sou rces in the library u sing the Manage Data Connections tool.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts tw o new join typ es, Left single m atch and
Right single m atch, available in the Insert Colu m ns d ialog.
TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts three new nod e navigation m ethod s w hen
w orking w ith hierarchy exp ressions: N avigatePeriod , FirstN od e and
LastN od e.

Data function incompatibility change
D ifferent data types are used w hen sending Spotfire D ateTime / D ate / Time /
TimeSpan columns to data functions running the TIBCO Enterprise Runtime
for R or R engines.
When Sp otfire colu m ns are sent to a d ata fu nction u sing the TIBCO Enterp rise
Ru ntim e for R or R engines, the Sp otfire d ata is converted to ap p rop riate R d ata
typ es. With this release, w e have changed the typ es u sed w hen send ing Sp otfire
DateTim e/ Date/ Tim e/ Tim eSp an colu m ns to these engines, so that TIBCO
Enterp rise Ru ntim e for R or R receive the sam e d ata, as follow s:
