Multiple Data Tables in one Visualization

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 offers a flexible and d ynam ic w ay to com bine d ata
from m u ltip le d ata tables in the sam e visu alization. Data m ay be at
d ifferent aggregation levels and filtering m ay be ap p lied on the d ata
tables sep arately.

Subset Comparison

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has the ability to d isp lay d ifferent su bsets of d ata at
the sam e tim e in one visu alization. For exam p le, show ing both u nfiltered
d ata and filtered d ata, to com p are how they relate to each other .

Show/Hide Items in a Visualization

With TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 it is now p ossible to d efine a set of filtering

ru les, su ch as the top five or bottom five p erform ers, to show or hid e
certain p arts of an ind ivid u al visu alization.

Calculations on Aggregated Data

With TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 it is now p ossible to u se cu stom exp ressions

on aggregated d ata from any d ata sou rce, inclu d ing both in -m em ory and
in-d b d ata sou rces. Som e com m on calcu lations, like year over year,
m oving average or cu m u lative su m , are accessible d irectly from the
colu m n selector, w hich also inclu d es an in -line cu stom exp ression ed itor.

Syntax Highlighting in Expressions and Scripts

The bu ilt-in ed itor for cu stom exp ressions and scrip ts is in TIBCO
Sp otfire 5.5 enhanced w ith syntax highlighting that m akes it easier to
create and m aintain exp ressions and scrip ts. The exp ression ed itor
su p p orts context sensitive au tocom p lete fu nctionality .

Dynamic Page and Visualization Titles

With Sp otfire 5.5, title texts in visu alizations and p ages are now
d ynam ic in the sense that they can be configu red so that p arts of the text
are show ing valu es that are u p d ated som ew here else in the d ocu m ent.

Transparency of Visualization Items

With TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 it is now p ossible to control the transp arency of
visu alization item s, su ch as m arkers and lines, in several visu alization
typ es.

Improved Display of Details Visualization

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 offers several op tions on how to d isp lay a d etails
visu alization w hen no d ata has been m arked in the visu alizations

Improved Visual Effect for Marking

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has a new visu al effect for m arking in visu alizations

Improved Welcome Page

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 has a re-d esigned start p age that inclu d es som e
u sefu l shortcu ts like easy access to recently u sed files and search for files
in the library.

Support for Fiscal Years

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts having a fiscal calend ar hierarchy on an

axis, and to u se fiscal years, qu arters and m onths in cu stom exp ressions.

Data Connections

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts saving d ata connections and / or their d ata
sou rces in the library u sing the Manage Data Connections tool.

New Join Types

TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 su p p orts tw o new join typ es, Left single m atch and

Data function incompatibility change
D ifferent data types are used w hen sending Spotfire D ateTime / D ate / Time /
TimeSpan columns to data functions running the TIBCO Enterprise Runtime
for R or R engines.
When Sp otfire colu m ns are sent to a d ata fu nction u sing the TIBCO Enterp rise
Ru ntim e for R or R engines, the Sp otfire d ata is converted to ap p rop riate R d ata
typ es. With this release, w e have changed the typ es u sed w hen send ing Sp otfire
DateTim e/ Date/ Tim e/ Tim eSp an colu m ns to these engines, so that TIBCO

Drag and drop of data file

Drag and d rop a d ata file (.txt, .xls, .sbd f etc.) on the ap p lication w ind ow w ill
ad d a new table to an existing analysis, instead of creating a new analysis w hich
w as the behavior in earlier versions.

N ote: If the TIBCO Sp otfire 3.1.0 Professional or old er is installed , it is
recom m end ed to u ninstall it p rior to installing the TIBCO Sp otfire
Professional 5.5.

Finally, d ep loy the TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 d istribu tion on the TIBCO Sp otfire
Server 5.5.

Upgrading from Previous Version without Installing

1.

First install/ u p grad e the TIBCO Sp otfire Server to version 5.5.

Dep loy the TIBCO Sp otfire 5.5 d istribu tion on the TIBCO Sp otfire Server
5.5.

3.

Start the old version of TIBCO Sp otfire Professional, logon to the TIBCO
Sp otfire Server 5.5 and accep t the u p d ate.

Installation Notes

If the .N ET 4.0 fram ew ork is not installed , it w ill be d ow nload ed and

installed w hen lau nching the TIBCO Sp otfire Client installer.

If the p rod u ct localization is d efined as a u ser grou p p reference, a client

restart is requ ired after the initial login to the server for the changes to be
fu lly ap p lied . N ote that clients are not inform ed that su ch a restart is
requ ired . It is also im p ortant that the ap p rop riate localization p ack ages are
d ep loyed to the TIBCO Sp otfire Server p rior to setting the u ser grou p
p reference.
N ote that the correct Langu age p ack and the m atching server p reference
m u st be set on the very first server that the u ser connects to. Changing the
settings on the Server w ill not have any effect. If th e localization grou p
p reference d oes not have any effect, it can be enforced on clients u sing Tools
> Op tions.
