Depression: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments
This site listed most of the causes and symptoms of depression. These causes can
include trauma, and chemical imbalances in the brain. Also an inactive thyroid gland can
really cause depression. Some symptoms include lower sex drive, inability to focus, and
thoughts of suicide. Mainly this site stated why antidepressants work and how they
stimulate the brains chemicals. This site is somewhat credible in that there are a lot of
statistics to back up their findings, but there isnt a whole lot of science to support their
statements. This site does, however, use a lot of logical statements and more
understandable science to get less-educated people educated.

What are Neurotransmitters?
At this website I found out the functions of serotonin and dopamine. I also found the
functions of norepinephrine and epinephrine: they are excitatory neurotransmitters that
cause depression-like symptoms including anxiety and loss of sleep. Dopamine is
considered both an inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitter. This is because dopamine
stimulates the brain and keeps the brain focused. Serotonin is inhibitory and controls
the brains moods. If the inhibitory chemicals are depleted, then the brain will likely be
depressed and imbalanced. There is no way for the brain to naturally produce more
serotonin and dopamine, so people have to take drugs to reset the balance. This
website is definitely credible because nothing on their page is wrong and everything is
thoroughly explained in a way anyone can understand.
