Control resolution is a critical measure of precision in a positioning system, which

describes the minimum distance between two adjacent locations (control points) that can
be positioned by the system.
Controller storage register is not a limiting factor of control resolution, as it can be easily
altered by altering the number of bits the controller uses to define axis coordinate
location. Electromechanical components determine control resolution, for example the
leadscrew pitch determines the minimum distance that a worktable can move. Thus,
electromechanical components are a limiting factor of control resolution, as they cannot
be as easily altered as a controller storage register.
