SmartPlant License Manager (SPLM) requires a static IP Address on the license machine. To
fulfill this requirement on laptops a virtual network adapter can be installed by using Microsoft
Loopback Adapter. This document uses Windows 7 as an example, describes how to install and
configure Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and how to set up license machine on Windows 7
standalone system like a laptop. It contains the following sections:
9) Select Microsoft in the Manufacturer box, and Microsoft Loopback Adapter in the
Add Hardware dialog box. Click Next.
NOTES:
1) If your Windows 7 machine has User Access Control turned on and you need to run pdlice
commands in Command Prompt, then you must right-click on Command Prompt and open it
with Run as administer option. Otherwise, the commands may result in errors.
2) If your laptop is configured as a license machine, and it has Embassy Trust Suite or Panda or
MacAfee or Norton Antivirus software installed and you are getting SPLM failed: [reading
socket] connection reset by peer message, you will need to uninstall the anti-virus software
on your laptop.
3) If you have VM installed on your laptop, and you need to run your application from VM and
pull license from your laptop, you need to add your laptops node name as license machine in
SPLM client inside VM. Please refer to documentation Configure SPLM 2012 Client in
VMware for more details.
