Osha Standards

Salon Owners are meant to test the Formaldehyde exposure levels (OSHA limits
are .75 for a eight hour work shift)
Workers are supposed to use any form of protective and washing equipment from
gloves, face shields, and Chemical Splash goggles. For cleaning up they use a skin
and eye wash to clean the eye any part of the skin that came in contact with the
chemicals
Explain what you doing and putting in the customer hair

Prevention Steps

Staff will wear gloves for all wet work


Staff will be asked to remove hand jewellery at beginning of shift
Owner to buy eye baths in case of splashing incidents.
Owner will check with staff for skin/allergy problems every 3 months
Rotate job functions to prevent overuse injuries.
Rotate basin duty (to avoid prolonged contact with water).
Purchase scissors, blow-dryers, styling rods and rollers, gloves, etc., which
are easy and safe to use.
Store frequently used, heavy objects, and material between knee and
shoulder height.
Inspect tools and equipment and make sure they are in good condition. Clean
all equipment after each use.

How does Exposure Occur?


- Chemical left out at eye level
- Customer not knowing the severity of the chemical and their allergies
- Staff exposed because they werent wearing gloves or a face mask.

Staff may suffer from dermatitis, increased sensitivity, severely dry skin

allergic reaction.
