This is the fourth of several lessons in the recorder unit. Today's lesson will
review notes learned in previous lessons and introduce a new note/fingering
for recorder. Students will use their knowledge of notes, rhythms and musical
symbols to perform several songs on recorder.

Teacher will lead students in review of previously learned notes. What is the
fingering for ___? (Students will show proper fingering on recorders and/or
orally respond). Students will play a couple previously learned recorder songs,
then teacher will demonstrate new note (low d) fingerings. Students will then
play new song(s) that use the new note. Teacher will review music
symbols/terms as appropriate. How many beats are in a measure for this song?
How many times do we need to repeat?

Students will perform both in small groups and full class, with possible
opportunity for individual performances as time permits. Teacher will model
proper fingerings/recorder playing, repeat instructions as necessary.

Additional thoughts/notes

Teacher will be listening and watching students throughout the class to see that
they are using proper hand position and fingerings, and producing proper
sound (not "squealing"). At the end of the unit there will be a more formal
assessment.
