Emergency Service has urged everyone in the south east to prepare Disaster response teams remain on standby ahead of an extreme weather event expected to hit south-east Queensland on Saturday. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) expects a strong upper trough to merge with a surface trough to bring heavy rain and damaging winds. BoM has issued a severe weather warning for the south-east coast, parts of the Wide BayBurnett and the Darling Downs and Granite Belt. "Be safe, be safe for your family," he said. Mr Roche said people needed to consider whether they should stay at home instead of venturing out. Heavy rain is expected to start falling on Saturday morning, easing around Brisbane during the afternoon. On the Gold Coast, where all beaches have been closed, the rain should ease on Saturday night. Damaging winds, with peak gusts of about 90kph, are possible in coastal areas and in parts of the south west. Large swells on the bays and in open water are expected on Friday night and
into Saturday, while dangerous surf conditions and significant beach erosion could occur on exposed beaches between Fraser Island and the Gold Coast during Saturday morning.
