Independent Variable: Type of rock

Dependent Variable: Difference in mass (grams)


Control: Rocks in regular water
1. Weigh two granite samples using the scale and record the masses (grams).
2. Place one sample of granite into a container marked water and put the other
sample in a container marked vinegar.
3. Measure 50mL of vinegar using the graduated cylinder.
4. Pour the vinegar into the proper container with the granite.
5. Measure 50mL of water using the graduated cylinder.
6. Pour the water into the proper container of granite.
7. Repeat steps 1-6 for marble and sandstone.
8. Leave all samples alone for 2 days.
9. Record the final masses (grams).
