Journal:
I have reached out to Dr. MacLeod for a possible mentor, and she has responded with
interest in being my advisor. I plan on doing my first classroom presentation on Thursday, and
my second and third presentations on Friday and Monday. I found an article that exactly explains
what I will be researching. This article has been extremely beneficial for providing insight into
UV radiation and how exactly it leads to Melanoma and other cancers. I plan on reaching out to
the authors of this article in order to find more information and to act as a possible second
advisor.
I have started thinking about my research paper, and I believe that Im considering
focusing on environmental factors and the demographics. Also, Im planning on focusing on the
Ozone depletion and how this is affecting melanoma development. Next, I plan on describing
what Melanoma is and how it develops. In addition, Im going to possibly include how education
on the topic influences the rate of Melanoma cases. Finally, I plan on venturing into the field of
demographics and how skin tone, hair color, and eye color play a role in Melanoma
development. However, I havent exactly decided the order of these ideas, but I have an

overarching theme of Environmental Factors and Human Knowledge on the dangers of UV

radiation and Melanoma development.
