INTRODUCTION
 The Central Government to introduce
Industrial Employment Act,1946 with
a view to afford protection to the
workmen with regard to conditions of
employment.
COVERAGE OF THE ACT
 Establishments covered:-
It applies to,
A) every industrial establishment wherein 100
or more workmen are employed.
B) wherein 100 or more persons were employed
on any day of the preceding 12 months.

C) The establishment of a contractor
who employs workmen in order to
fulfill a contract with the owner of an
industrial establishment.
 Establishments Excluded:-
It may be noted that the Act does
not apply to such workmen employed
in any industrial undertaking as are
covered by the following rules and
regulations;
a) The Fundamental and
Supplementary Rules
b) Civil service Regulations
AIM OF THE ACT
 To define, with sufficient precision, the principal conditions of
employment in industrial establishments under them and to
make the said conditions known to workmen employed by them.

 To regulate standards of conduct of the employers and


employees so that the labour- management relations could be
improved.

 To maintain proper discipline .

 To specify the duties and responsibilities of both the employers


and the employees.
