Introduction: Taste Buds are sensory organs on your tongue that allow you to experience

tastes that are sweet, sour, bitter, or salty. Before starting, draw a diagram of the taste buds on
your tongue.

Objective: To taste test to discover the role of taste buds and determine whether foods are
sweet, sour, bitter, or salty.
Supplies:
*3-4 foods from each of the following categories (sweet, sour, bitter, or salty); total of 14 foods
*Blindfold
*14 small cups
*Marker
Procedure: Number each cup from 1 to 14. Have a partner put a piece of food into each cup;
recording the actual food on the table provided under results (column 4). While blindfolded,
taste the food from Cup 1. Is it salty, sweet, bitter, or sour? Can you identify the food? Have
your partner record your answers and then repeat for Cups 2-14.
