finallybuysahouseoftheirown.Whensheseesthehouseforthefirsttimeitlooksnothinglike
sheexpected.Thehousewaslocatedinapoorneighborhood,andwasquitesmall.Esperanza
wasashamedofherfamilyspoverty.Andfacesmanyproblemsinthebook.
Esperanzaisthemaincharacterinthebook.ShesaMexicanAmerican,andshesthe
oldestinherfamily.Shedoesnthaveanyfriends,andisverylonely.Shesashamedofher
familyspoverty.Andjustwantstofitinwithotherpeople.Oneoftheproblemsshefacesinthe
bookisgettingraped.Shesthetypeofcharacterthatchangesthroughoutthebook.Inever
expectedthattohappenanditsurprisedme.Ithinkshesabelievablecharacterbecausethereare
peopleintheworldwhohavesimilarproblems.
TheHouseonMangoStreetisasymbolofthebook.It'sasymbolbecauseitreflectson
thesocialclassherfamilyisin.Itreflectsonwhyshesembarrassedofherfamilyspoverty.
Becausetreatherpoorly.Shewantedabetterhousethatwouldntbecrowdedwithsomany
peoplelivingthere.Iwouldrecommendthisbooktoanyonewholikesreadingcomingofage
books.
