    Onecomponentofthesludgefromtheewastefactoryisrubbingalcohol.Atfirst,mygroup
    andIdidntknowwhatwasinthesludge.Oneoftheexperimentsthatwedidsothatwecould
    findoutwhatwasinthesludgeisdistillation.Distillationisusedtofindoutwhatthedensityis
    andwhatliquidisinthesludge.Tododistillationyouneedtohavetwoliquidsandyouuseto
    separatethemfromeachother.Therubbingalcoholhadtheboilingpointof83degrees,which
    wasclosetotothedensityofrubbingalcoholbecausethedensityis82degrees.Additionally,
    thesubstancesmelledlikealcoholandthedensitywasclose.

    Inordertofindoutwhatwasisinthesludgeisthatwehadtodocoupleofexperiments.One
    oftheexperimentsthatwedidsothatwecouldfindoutwhatwasinthesludgeisDensityof
    Liquids.DensityofLiquidsisusedtofindoutthedensityoftheliquids.InordertodoDensityof
    Liquids,youhavetoseparatetheliquidthatitiscombinedwithoritmightbebyitself.Tofind
    thedensityoftheliquidthatwasseparatedfromthesludgewehadtodomassovervolume,
    whichisdividethemassfromthevolume.
    Onecomponentofthesludgefromtheewastefactoryiscornoil.Thecornoilsmassis
    40.1gandthevolumeis54.1mL,somygroupandIdidmassovervolumeandthedensitywas
    0.93g/mL.Thecornoilsdensityis0.92,whichwastheclosestcomponentthatwasclosethe
    density.

    Whendoingexperimentstofindoutwhatisinthesludge,mygroupandIdidDensityof
    Solidstofindoutwhattypeofsolidwasinthesludge.DensityofSolidsisusedtofindwhattype
    ofsoliditis,sowetookoutthemetalballsoutofthesludge.InordertodoDensityofSolidsyou
    needtohaveasolidanddomassovervolumetofindthedensity.Onecomponentofthesludge
    fromtheewastefactoryisSilverballs.Wedid4trialstofindthemassandvolumeandweused
    4mLofwatertofindthevolumeandthepetridishtofindthegramsanditwas8grams.Our

    ThesecondtolastexperimentweusedtofindoutwhatwasinthesludgeisSolubilityof
    Solutes.InordertodoSolubilityyouneedtohaveasoluteandwater,soyoupourthesolutein
    thewater,pouralittlemoreofwater,andmixitupuntilyoufinditssaturationpoint.Whenyou
    findthesaturationpointyouneedtofinditsdensitytofindoutwhatthesoluteis.One
    componentofthesludgefromtheewastefactoryissalt(SodiumChloride).Itwastheonly
    soluteleftinthesludgeandwekeptboilingittodryitandmakesureithadnowater.Thenwe
    usedsolubilitytoidentifythesolute,westartedat100mLandslowlyaddedwaterasit
    dissolved.Thesaturationpointwaspoint39.4g/100mLandthesaltsolubilitywas36andmy
    groupandIresultswastheclosesttheclosestonetoit.

    Whentryingtofindoutwhatisinthesludge,mygroupandIdidanexperimenttofind
    outtheliquidthatwasleftandtheexperimentisDensityofLiquids.DensityofLiquidsisusedto
    findwhattheliquidis.MygroupandIdidDensityofliquidstwotimes,includingthisone.In
    ordertoDensityofLiquidsyouneedtoseparatetheliquidsthatisinthesludgeandthenfind
    thedensityoftheliquid.Tododensityyouneedtodomassovervolume.Onecomponentofthe
    sludgefromtheewastefactoryiswater.Itwasaclearliquid,afterseparatingtheotherliquids
    wehadtoseeifitwaswaterbecausethatiswhatwesaid.Wekeptonboilingittofindits
    boilingpointwhichwas100degrees105degrees,andthewatersboilingpointwas100
    degreesthat'showweidentifiedthatitwaswater.

    CER6thParagraph
    Whendoingthesludgetest,mygroupandIdidanexperimentsothatwecouldfindthe
    solidthatwasonlyoneleft.Whendoingtheexperiment,rightawayweknewitwasiron
    becausetherewasrustinthesludgeanditwasmagnetic.First,beforewetookeverythingthat
    wasinthesludgetherewasrustinthesludgeandironwastheonlyleftandsowetookitout
    andcheckifitwasmagneticanditwas.
