WHATAREHUDDUDCRIMES?

Hudud(alsotransliteratedhadud,hudoodsingularhadd,liter

behaviourandthepunishmentsforseriouscrimes.InIslamiclaworSharia,hududusuallyreferstothe
classofpunishmentsthatarefixedforcertaincrimesthatareconsideredtobe"claimsofGod."They
includetheft,fornication,consumptionofalcohol,andapostasy.

offensesthatarefixedbytheQur'anorHadith.Traditionally,ta'zirpunishmentscouldbeappliedto
offensesforwhichnopunishmentisspecifiedintheQur'an.Theycouldalsobeappliedtohaddoffenses
insituationswherethestandardsofproofrequiredforhududpunishmentscouldnotbemet.
