Lincoln was elected president, the states of
South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi,
Georgia, Florida, Texas and Louisiana;
they seceded from the Union to form the
Confederate States of America with
Jefferson Davis as president, this act was
called secession and was declared illegal
by Lincoln in his first inaugural address.
