INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH

English is a language. So, what does language mean?


Wikipedia: Language is the ability to acquire and use complex systems
of communication.
Dictionary.com: body of words and the systems for their use common to a pe
oplewho are of the same community or nation, the same geographicalarea, or t
he same cultural tradition.
The free dictionary: Communication of thoughts and feelings through a system
of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or written symbols.
Oxford English Dictionary: The method of human communication, either
spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional
way.
Andre Choroco: Language is the exteriorization of ideas.

Grammatical Categories
1. Noun: A word used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things.
2. Verb: A word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence.
3. Adjective: A word naming an attribute of a noun.
4. Adverb: A word or phrase that modifies the meaning of an adjective,
verb, or other adverb, expressing manner, place, time, or degree.
5. Pronoun: A word the replaces a noun.
6. Preposition: A word usually preceding, a noun or pronoun and
expressing a relation to another word or element.
7. Article: A word used to modify a noun.
8. Conjunction: A word used to connect clauses or sentences or
to coordinate words in the same clause (e.g. and, but, if).
9. Interjection: An exclamation, especially as a part of
speech (e.g. ah!, dear me!).
