Course Objectives:

The objective of this course is to familiarize the students in detail about the analysis on
Complex Number field

The central idea of analytic functions and the various series and transformations will find
ready application in many branches of engineering

Unit I
Analytic Function : Limit and Continuity of a function of Complex variable,
Differentiability and Cauchy Riemann Equations (Cartesian and Polar Coordinates),
Harmonic Functions
Unit II
Complex Integration : Line Integrals, Cauchy Integral Theorem, Cauchy Integral
Formula, Cauchy Integral formula for higher order derivatives
Unit III
Series Expansions and Singularities : Taylors series, Laurents series, Zeroes and
Singularities of Complex function
Unit IV
Residues and Evaluation of Integrals using Residues : Residues, Evaluation of
definite Integrals using Residue Theorem, Improper real Integrals
Unit V
Transformations : Some general transformations, Bilinear Transformation, The
Schwarz-Christoffel transformation, Mapping a half plane into a circle
Unit VI
Conformal Mapping and Evaluation of inverse Laplace using residues :
Conformal mapping, Solution of Laplace equation by conformal mapping, Inverse
Laplace Transforms by method of residues, Some Application to boundary value
problems
