Introductory Speech Assignment

Overview:
The purpose of this speech is for you to introduce one of your classmates to the rest of the class
and to gain a little bit of practice speaking in front of your peers in a low-stakes speaking
assignment.
For this speech, you will be given time to interview one of your peers in class. Your job will then
be to introduce your classmate by comparing him or her to a tangible object. Your introduction
should tell us a lot about who this person is today (their psychological profile) rather than their
past biographical history (things that they did or that happened to them in the past).
For this speech, you should have a clear introduction, body (including 3 main points), and
conclusion. Your comparison should make an argument for why this person and the object that
you chose are alike. The best comparisons use a very specific object that is unique and could not
be applied to others in the class.
While planning your speech, you will develop a full sentence preparation outline. You must
type this portion of the assignment, follow the provided outline format/structure, and turn the
outline in on the due date for a grade.
