Abstract

This paper serves as a justification for the artifacts I have chosen to include in my PDQP
Domain E.

Artifact 1

The first artifact that I chose for this domain is a 5 day unit plan that I had to create for one of my
classes at National University. The reason I chose this artifact is because I had to put a time
limit to the activity. I had to think about how long the class time was and how to separate each
part of the lessons in a way that would be best for my students. I had to make sure not too much
time was spent on one item. Domain E focuses on time management as part of the
expectations, this assignment really served as a great way to deal with time management.
Artifact 2
My second artifact is a rough draft of a class outline. While completing my student teaching at
Helix Charter High School, the one thing I was worried about was time management. I had
always been used to one hour class period, however Helix has a block schedule thus making
each class an hour and a half long. All of the lesson plans and assignments I had completed
prior to starting my student teaching focused on one hour class periods. What I started doing
was making an outline of all the things we would do it class. I then started assigning a certain
amount of time for each part of the lesson. The good thing about this was that the class clock
was at the back so I was always facing it and I could keep track of my time limits. I kept doing
this until the last few weeks of my student teaching. By then I had grown accustomed to the time
allotted in class and did not need to write down how long each activity should take. But this
method definitely helped me manage my time in a beneficial manner.

Artifact Justification

My third artifact is a classroom management notebook I constructed at the end of my classroom

management course. I decided to include this because Domain E also talks about creating a
safe environment which includes laws, classroom rules, etc. This notebook serves as a great
resource for doing just that. I believe this artifact encompass almost every aspect of Domain E.
Artifact 4

The last artifact is a literature review. This is an assignment I did in one of my graduate courses
at National University. It focuses on the book Classroom Management that Works by Robert
Marzano. In the book he included case studies that applied to certain chapters in the book. This
case study focused on getting to know my students and how I would do that. I used the
resources and ideas that Marzano provided and applied them to a case study. Domain E also
deals with getting to know ones students which is an important factor in creating a successful
classroom and environment.
