BLACK OUT PROCEDURE

On Black Out

1st stand-by Aux Engine will start and take up the load.
Incase of failure of starting of 1st stand-by Aux engine, 2nd Stand-by Aux
engine will start and take up the load.
Incase even the 2nd stand-by Aux Engine fails to start, the Emergency
Generator will start within 42 seconds and take up the load. (The Emergency
Generator supplies power to No.1 Steering motor, Emergency Air
Compressor, Emergency Equipments & navigation lights.)
After the auxiliary engine defect is rectified, start the auxiliary engine. Adjust
frequency to 60 Hz. Close the ACB by pulling the red handle and turning
clockwise to take on load.

On Black Out at sea steaming

As soon as Black out occurs, all machineries stop and the Main Engine trips.
In such a scenario, the ME control is to be taken over to ECR and the fuel
lever and telegraph are to be brought to STOP position.
Simultaneously, the above mentioned power restoration process initiates
automatically.
The sequential start machinery/ pumps will start as soon as the power is
restored in the respective order of time delay mentioned on their breakers.
All the trips must be reset.
Confirm that the following have started.
- Main LO Pump
- M/E Jacket water pump
- LT Cooling water pump
- Main CSW Pump
- FO Circulating and supply pumps for M/E & A/E
- Stern tube pump
- Water circulating pump for economizer
- Feed water pump for auxiliary boiler
Steering motor, Accommodation A/C, Provision Refrigeration Compressor,
Auxiliary Boiler Panel, E/R Vent fans, Accommodation fans to be reset
and/or started upon restoration of power.
Trouble-shoot the cause of Black Out and the cause of failure of Stand-by
Aux Engines to start and come on load (if it had happened so).
Start the Main Engine and if all machineries are back to normal condition,
transfer the control of Main Engine to Bridge according to the ECR-Bridge
control change over procedure.
