1. The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers


By Stan and Jan Berenstain
When Sister asks Papa Bear she shouldnt ever talk to, go with,
or take anything from strangers anymore because it is
dangerous, Sister becomes afraid and thinks all strangers are
evil. Mama Bear comes to the rescue with some common sense
to help solve the problem. This book includes rules and tips for
safety with strangers, including regarding the privacy of ones
body.

2. The Vegetables We Eat


By Gail Gibons
With beautiful, glossy illustrations and plenty of information,
this book delves into the different types of vegetables and how
they are grown, as well as how and why eat them. Gibons
book is perfect for teaching children the importance of good
nutrition.

3. Whos In a Family?
By Robert Skutch
This book delves into the various types of family: nuclear,
extended, single-parent, same-sex parents. It is perfect for
teaching children that families do not all look the same and that is
okay. It fosters acceptance and understanding, and makes all
children feel welcome and includedno matter what kind of
family they are a part of.

4. Horton Hears a Who!


By Dr. Seuss
Horton the Elephant lives in the jungle of Nool and is swimming
one day when he hears a noise from a very small speck of dust on a
flower. He discovers that the small speck of dust is actually a tiny
community called Who-ville comprised of many Whos. Despite
much resistance from the other animals in the jungle, Horton vows
to protect this community because a persons a person, no matter
how small. This book is wonderful for teaching children empathy
and that everyone is important and should be treated with kindness,
love and respect.

5. The Busy Body Book- A Kids Guide to Fitness


By Lizzy Rockwell
In this book, Lizzy Rockwell talks about the various parts of our bodies
that work together to keep us going and moving. In it, children are seen
being active doing various things such as walking, skating, and more.
As studies show that children are becoming less and less active, this
book aims to get them excited about moving and making physical
activity a healthy, happy habit.

6. The Little Bit Scary People


By Emily Jenkins
This story is about a little girl who is scared of many people
she encounters throughout the day. She talks about why each
person is a little bit scary but also counters that with what
she predicts is their softer, more relatable side that makes
them less scary. This is an excellent tale for teaching children
not to make assumptions about or judge each other.

As the name states, this brightly illustrated book contains kidfriendly, healthy recipes for children to follow along with. In
addition to recipes, it also is equipped with fun facts and coloring
pages for children to enjoy.

8. Be Careful and Stay Safe (Learning to Get Along)

This important book teaches children basic safety
skills like avoiding harmful situations and asking for
help without scaring them or worrying their parents. It
also contains questions, activities and games to
emphasize and assess what the children are learning in
the book.

By Susan Verde
Author and certified yoga instructor Susan Verde
encourages children to delve into the world of yoga,
empowering them to be creative and develop a strong sense
of self and expression. The book also comes with a kidfriendly guide to 17 yoga poses.

This website, featuring Sparky the Fire Dog, the official mascot
of the National Fire Protection Association, is a fun and
interactive way to get children thinking, learning and engaging
in good safety practices. Children can do anything from
drawing the fire safety Dalmatian to coloring pages to watching
cartoons and short animated clips. The website also features a
link for parents.
