Purpose
Grafting update report
Host plant
Host plant seems to be doing well although I did not take any picture of it for this
report.

Graft Specimens
GS01
Red Habanero
This graft has been removed from the host plant as has the branch it was initially
grafted onto. I am rather certain that the scion did not take due to the heat
damage that it suffered a couple of days after the grafting took place.
Although t could also have been that the original GS01 plant was only grown
from seed this season. See conclusion for further discussion.
GS02
Yellow habanero

As you can see GS02 has taken nicely and there is a lot of new growth on this
graft. As you can see in the 3rd image the graft only took on one side and
therefore half of the scion stem is actually loose. In time this will form a
hardened callus and should not be an issue. Until then though it is probably best
to keep this plant away from strong winds to avoid damage.
GS03
Orange Habanero

As you can see GS03 is a success. It is showing lots of new growth from the scion
so I am happy to declare this one as a success. Unlike GS02 the full scion stem
took to the graft nicely not just half of it.

GS04
Peruvian White Habanero

Unfortunately as you can see the scion completely dried out and therefore did
not survive. I was hopeful that this one may have pulled through but as you can
see it has not.
The graft site on the host plant has callused up nicely and I do expect that if the
scion did not suffer heat damage the same as GS01 in the beginning then it may
have taken to the graft and survived.

Conclusion
Now I am confident that 50% of the grafts have survived. What is interesting
though is that the 2 scions taken from 2 year old plants have survived the heat
and have taken the graft nicely while adversely the scions taken from new 1 year
old plants grown from seeds this year have both been unable to withstand the
heat and stress they were put through and therefore perished.
It is unclear and cannot be ascertained weather the scions age actually had
anything to do with the failure of both 1 year old scions or whether it was just
coincidence that it occurred this way.
