Content Team Leader Application

2010-2011

Overview:
Content Team Leaders will support the professional development of fellow
corps members in their specific content area. During Round 0, Professional
Development Saturdays, and other professional development opportunities Content
Team Leaders will play an integral role in the development and execution of sessions.
They will support corps member development in TAL actions- (setting goals,
developing assessments, backwards planning and tracking student progress) by
collaborating with peers, the program team, and Content Specialist. Content Team
Leaders should also see themselves as a liaison between their content area and
Program Directors and Content Specialist, to ensure that professional development is
aligned to corps member needs.
Content Team Leaders will report to Hayley Steffen [program director] and
Maura Ross [Director of Corps Professional Development]. Content Team Leaders will
receive initial training during the summer of 2010 and ongoing training and support
from the regional program team throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity
for 2009 corps members who wish to develop themselves as a leader of adults, and
will be particularly beneficial for those who wish to go into instructional or school
leadership positions in the future.

Required Dates:

• Initial CTL training: Friday June, 11th [4:30-6:00 Training, 6:00-7:00 CTL Happy
Hour]
• CTL training: August 4th 5:00-7:30 [tentative]
• Round 0 Kickoff: Evenings of August 16th- 20th, and all day August 21st, 28th, and
September 4th [to be discussed at a later date based on when 2010 CMs get
their course assignments]
• 2010 corps member work nights: No more than three evenings in late August,
early September [TBD]
• All Professional Development Saturdays, starting September 11th
• Additional dates during the school year as needed [TBD]

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Desire to professional develop in both adult leadership and instructional design


• Strong sense of responsibility, a desire to work with fellow corps members and
a deep belief in Teach For America’s mission
• Proficiency in standards based goal setting, backwards planning and
assessment
• Willingness to collaborate with regional program staff and content specialists in
order to develop the best possible support for corps members
• Act as a liaison between their content team and program directors and content
specialists
• Push their own development as a second year teacher and setting an example
as CM who is “owns their learning” at PDS
• Desire to think about what works best/ best practices in content pedagogue.
• Facilitate workshops and collaborative work sessions.

Compensation: This is a voluntary position.

Outcomes:
-CMWBAT articulate the relationship between tracking student
progress and achieving their big goal.
-CMWBAT develop a content appropriate tracking system that is
ready to implement upon completion of their first assessment.
-CMW track their first unit assessment.
