“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” adaption

Skit: Eric Carl’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” as interpreted by the


Class name here

Each child will recite a line from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. As they
recite their line, they will hold up a drawing or prop (if available) that
corresponds with their appointed line. (See script below)

Narrator: “In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf. One Sunday
morning the warm sun came up and-pop!-out of the egg came a tiny and
very hungry caterpillar. So she went out to look for some food.”
Caterpillar: approaches apple and says “hello”
Apple: “Today is Monday. I am an apple.”
Caterpillar: child pretends to eat apple and says “I’m still hungry!” while rubbing
belly
Pears: “Today is Tuesday. We are two pears.”
Caterpillar: pretends to eat pears and says “I’m still hungry!” while rubbing belly
Plums: “Today is Wednesday. We are three plums”
Caterpillar: child pretends to eat plums and says “I’m still hungry!” while rubbing
belly
Strawberries: “Today is Thursday. We are four strawberries.”
Caterpillar: child pretends to eat strawberries and says “I’m still hungry!” while
rubbing belly
Oranges: “Today is Friday. We are five oranges.”
Caterpillar: child pretends to eat oranges and says “I’m still hungry!” while
rubbing belly
Caterpillar: Today is Saturday. I’m still hungry!
Caterpillar: approaches each child and says what food they are, pretends to eat
them and says “yum”. After eating last food, child says “ugh I have a tummy
ache”

Narrator: “On Sunday the caterpillar ate a nice lettuce leaf and felt much
better.”
Caterpillar: pretends to eat lettuce leaf (prop)
Narrator: “She built a cocoon around herself and stayed inside for two
weeks. Finally she pushed her way out and-pop!-she was a beautiful
butterfly! She’s all grown up and ready to see the world. Just like all of the
Class name here.”
All Children: say “The End!” and bow.
