PRESS RELEASE

RURAL CHARACTER PROTECTED

“On Thursday, June 24, 2010 we finalized the purchase of sixty-six acres of
open space land in the Town of Oxford located at 53 Quaker Farms Road”,
First Selectman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers said happily. Town meeting
action overwhelmingly authorized the purchase of the property and signing
the contract was “simply acting on the wishes of our residents”.

Funds from the town’s open space land acquisition account, in the amount
of $400,000, were used toward the purchase. The town has applied for an
Open Space & Watershed Protection grant which, if received, would help
defray some of the purchase price for the parcel. “This property will help
maintain the rural character of our community, a much-desired aspect of
Oxford, which residents treasure.”

“The simple action of signing contracts, culminates more then two years
of negotiations between the town and the seller. This acreage has been
referred to as the Von Wettberg property, but it represents so much more.
It is protecting what could never be replaced if it had been developed for
residential use. This is a proud moment for this administration and our
town—we’re protecting this land for future generations.”

“Selectman David McKane and I are proud to have negotiated this purchase
on behalf of our residents, our town and its future,” concluded Mrs. Drayton-
Rogers.
