What does the plot of “In America” have to do with the words: Immigrant, Emigrant, and Refugee?

The plot of “In America” in my opinion relates to the words immigrant and refugee more than the word

emigrant. By definition immigrant means a non-native person who migrates to another country for

permanent residence; the word refugee means a person who flees for refuge. In the plot of In America

the family members are Irish immigrants that enter the USA on a tourist visa via Canada. They are all

refugees in a sense because they are coming to America to seek refuge. The word emigrant means a

person who leaves a region to settle. An emigrant is not a permanent resident of the new region.

Out of the family who is your favorite character? What are your reasons they are your favorite

character? My favorite character out the family would have to be Johnny. Johnny is a hard working

man and the center of the family. In my opinion he has what I would call an addictive personality. He is

a good man that is being haunted by the death of his only son due to a brain tumor. The death of his

son takes a lot out of him as a person and sometimes we can see instances of lack of emotion in Johnny,

perhaps the son’s death and Johnny’s episodes of lack of emotion are connected? Johnny is pursuing a

career as an actor.
