Catch Basin Filter Comparison Chart

Based on test data from University of California, Irvine 2006

The following testing summary was derived from test data recently published by the
University of California, Irvine's Department of Environmental Health, Science and Policy
and the Department of Planning, Policy and Design. The full report; "Optimization of
Stormwater Filtration at the Urban/Watershed Interface" by Hipp, Ogunseitan, Lejano
and Smith, 2006, is available upon request.

The report provided the scientific study, procedures and results obtained in the study of
Catch Basin Filters as a means for cities to meet TMDL standards. The results showed
that optimizing the placement of effective catch basin filters can provide the required
filtering to allow TMDL levels to be met. Strategic use of 158 catch basin filters out of
498 catch basins in a sensitive watershed were effective in meeting the TMDL levels for
TSS (Sediment), Cd (Cadmium) and Zn (Zinc). The filters also removed copper, lead, E.
Coli, fats, oils and grease.

The Ultra-DrainGuard was one of ten filters tested. The test results of three different
types of catch basin filters are shown for comparison purposes:

Pollutant Ultra-DrainGuard Plus Brand X - (A1) Brand Y - (B)

Note: A different model, the Ultra-DrainGuard AM, was tested for E coli. Initial results of
10.7% were based on a flow rate of 3L min-1. After storing the effluent in the filter for 24
hours, the retested rate of removal of the E coli increased to 96.4%.

Ultra-DrainGuard and Ultra-HydroKleen (box style) models can have customized filter
media included to meet specific pollutant reduction needs.
