Agastya International Foundation– An organization which runs one of the largest
science education programs in the world. It focuses on teaching science practically to
the rural students to sparkle creativity in them rather than providing them just
bookish knowledge.

dors were awarded for their extra ordinary performance in the LEAD
Program. Over 150 LEAD students attended the valedictory and got a
chance to meet the renowned personalities of Sirsi. The guests motivated
the LEADers by their powerful and inspiring words.

Inauguration on On May 9 ,2010 Lead Hospet had it's annual valedictory ceremony

Ullas Hegde: 3rd year B.Com, MES College, Sirsi


Ullas is a very active student who worked in 2 projects as
LEADer and in more than 3 projects as team member. He con-
ducted a blood grouping camp in his college to make students
aware of their blood groups and also did a project at the central
library, Sirsi where he arranged more than 15000 books in order
by giving them numbers, which is now very useful for the
visitors.
Suma Badagi: 3rd year B.A, Govt. First Grade college,
Mundgod
Suma gave free tuitions to Govt. school students of 9th and 10st
std who did not have proper facilities to learn at school. She
trained them on all the subjects and prepared them well for the
upcoming exam. Students who were expecting just passing marks
before are now expecting more than 70% in their exam.
Shivkumar Shettar: 4th year BSc Forestry,
College of Forestry, Sirsi
Shivkumar is very passionate towards wild life conservation. He
went to different schools in and around Sirsi and made the stu-
dents aware of poisonous and non poisonous snakes by showing
them pictures. The purpose of the project was to save snakes
which are being killed by people who think that they are harmful.
He also donated charts with all the information about snakes to
schools expecting at least 40% reduction in the death of snakes in
those areas.

Jeena alphonsa: Kutturswami B. Ed College, Hospet


Jeena took the initiative to send some slum children back to
school. She met the parents of 12 children who had made their
kids leave school and work for daily wages. She continuously
visited them for more than 15 days and finally convinced them
to send their kids to school. Jeena also gave tuitions and did
counseling for children. All the 12 children have enrolled in
school now.
Manoj Tandur: 6th Sem, PDIT College, Hospet
Manoj wanted to help newly admitted students and visitors by
guiding them about the college campus. He designed a complete
campus map and implemented it in the main gate of the
college . He also convinced the college management to fund Rs.
4000 for the same purpose.
Poornima E: B.Com 2nd year,
Theosophical College, Hospet
Poornima conducted blood grouping camp in collaboration with
Bharat Vikas Parishad into her college. 380 people participated
the camp and got to know their blood group. The participators
included faculties, students and local people. Poornima
managed to do this project in zero budget by arranging all the
recourses from her college and local people.

LEADers
organized an event called Chote Ustad– An inter school fancy dress, painting and power point
presentation competition to bring out the young hidden talents. More than 20 schools participated
in the event on 12th June at DCSE, Hubli. Fancy dress competition was for 1st to 4th std students
where more than 15 students appeared in different historical personalities’ costume.
Painting competition was held for 5th to 8th std students where more than 250 students partici-
pated.
Over 12 teams participated in the power point presentation competition.
Global warming was the topic for painting and power point presentation to make the students
aware of global warming and the steps to be taken to reduce it.
Mr. Ashwin. R.K, Professor, BVB CET, Mrs. Manju, and Mrs. Reena, Mr. Ajay Shukla, Program
Manager, LEAD, DCSE and Ms. Jayashree, Professor, Fatima College, Hubli were the judges for
Fancy dress, Painting and PPT respectively. The event was organized by Pawan Kumar (Leader),

LEADer’s remark
It was really a very tough task to conduct the program
and it was a success due to the hard efforts of the team.
Being a Leader, I learnt many things such as teamwork,
marketing, organizing, managing things within given
resources, time management and most importantly managing
such a big crowd! I thank LEAD for all the support and
look forward to being involved in such activities in the future.

Twin City Idol 2010!- Singing competition judged by

Mr. Raghu Dixit, Singer, Composer and Music Director
LEAD organized the singing competition Twin City idol to bring out the hidden singing talents of
Hubli– Dharwad. The competition was held under senior and junior categories and more than 120
people registered for auditions. Out of 120, 21 seniors between the age group of 18– 28 and 14
juniors between the age group 12– 17 were selected for semifinals. Mr, Ashok Nadgir,
Mrs. Gayatri Deshpande and Mrs. Veena Hangal judged auditions and semifinal and selected 5
singers from both the categories to participate in the finals. Mr. Raghu Dixit, a renown singer,
composer and musician from Bangalore was invited to select the winners on 26th June. The
program was held in the auditorium of Deshpande Foundation. Ms. Sapna Upadhyay and
Ms. Mahima bagged Twin City Idol 2010 award under junior and senior category respectively.
Ms. Varsha Hardikar and Ms. Chaitra Pai bagged the runner up positions under junior and senior
category respectively. Mr. Raghu Dixit gave valuable feedbacks to all the singers and at the end of
the program, he captured his audience through his breath taking singing performance.

Reconstruction of houses
in flooded areas
As we all know, North Karnataka suffered heavy floods in 2009
and many people were rendered homeless. During that causality,
LEADers took initiation to raise money to help the flood victims. Within
2 weeks, LEADers raised more than Rs. 70000 and donated the money for
the reconstruction of houses. By June 20th, 2010, 3 houses were
reconstructed in Ron taluk of Gadag dist by using the money raised by
LEAD. The administration and professional cost incurred during
construction were contributed by Deshpande Foundation.
Apart from money, LEADers also collected clothes,
vessels, eatables and food grains and donated
to the flood victims.
