NATIONAL USDA AWARD FOR U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE EMPLOYEES

Seven employees from the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the
Northern District of Iowa received a national award from Agriculture Secretary Tom
Vilsack in Washington, D.C., on August 3, 2010. The presentation was made during
the 62nd Secretary’s Annual Honor Awards program at the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA).

The USAO employees were recognized as part of the Agriprocessors Recovery

and Litigation Team for their work related to Packers and Stockyards violations that
took place at meatpacking plant Agriprocessors, Inc. in Postville, Iowa. Matt Cole, Pete
Deegan, Shari Konarske, Lee C. Meyer, Maureen Oviatt, Sali Van Weelden, and
C.J. Williams shared in the group award for their work on the case.

The Honor Awards are the most prestigious awards given by USDA. The awards
reflect USDA’s priorities of revitalizing rural communities; providing America’s children
safe, nutritious, and balanced meals; conserving and restoring our nation’s natural
resources; and promoting agricultural production and increasing food security.
