Timeline

October 1933

Germany withdrew from an international disarmament conference and also from the

League of Nations.

January 1934

Germany signed a nonaggression pact with Poland.

March 1935

Hitler formally renounced the disarmament provisions of the Versailles treaty with the

formation of a German air force, and soon he reinstated conscription.

September 1931

Japan occupied Manchuria

[[Lytton Report condemned the Japanese for resorting to force, but the powers were

unwilling to impose sanctions.]]

^^Caused Japan to withdraw from the League of Nations and kept it’s hold on

Manchuria.

June 1935

Britain and France met with Mussolini to form the Stresa Front.

[[This was later violated by Britain.]]

October 1935

Mussolini, using a border incident as an excuse, attacked Ethiopia.

November 1 1936

Mussolini turned to Germany and spoke publicly of a Rome-Berlin Axis.

March 7 1936
Hitler sent a small armed force into the demilitarized Rhineland.

July 1936

Spanish Civil War

1936

Rome-Berlin Axis Pact and Japan joined the Axis powers in the Anti-Comintern Pact

1939

Franco won the war and the fascist had won effective control of Spain.

1934

Nazi Party in Austria tried to assassinate the Prime Minister to take power, but that didn’t

happen.

1938

Hitler wanted to try again to get Austria. The current chancellor, Kurt von Schuschnigg

refused to be intimidated. He issued a plebiscite. Hitler gained Austria.

September 12 1938

Hitler made a speech and it led to rioting in the Sudetenland. After a couple days, Britain

and France agreed to let Sudetenland to Germany.
