Dabur Acquires Turkey firm Hobi Kozmetik

Making its first-ever overseas acquisition, FMCG player


Dabur acquired Turkish personal care firm Hobi Kozmetik
Group for $69 million (about Rs 324 crore).

Hobi Kozmetik is a 35 year old company in Turkey


and is one of the market leaders in baby and body
care products under ‘Hobby’ and ‘New Era’ brands
across 35 countries.
The deal has been struck through Dabur’s Dubai-
based subsidiary, Dabur International, which has
acquired 100 per cent stake in three Hobi group
firms – Hobi Kozmetik, Zeki Plastik and Ra
Pazarlama.
Reasons for the Acquisition.
* This acquisition is an important step towards further
consolidating and expanding their substantial presence in the
Middle East and North Africa region.

* Acquisition offers Dabur an entry into an attractive new market


like Turkey, and adds to their portfolio popular international
brands that enjoy pole position in their respective categories.
Results...

* Despite rewarding shareholders with 1:1 bonus, the stock


tumbled 3.7 per cent yesterday after being up by about 1.5
per cent before the announcement of results in contrast to
marginal rise of 0.1 per cent in BSE FMCG index and a
decline of 0.6 per cent in the Sensex.
