WELCOME TO KRSNA
CALCULUS!
Hare Krishna!
First and foremost I welcome you to Krsna Calculus.
My name is Krsna Dhenu Thakar. I am the instructor
for this course. I am currently a pre-pharmacy major
here at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
I have tutored calculus for almost two and half years.
In addition, I have tutored and held small sessions for
other mathematical classes for nearly four years.
WHAT IS KRSNA CALCULUS?
“Krsna Calculus” is calculus used in a Krsna Conscious
perspective.
These slide shows are meant for any student who is currently
taking AP Calculus AB or BC, College Calculus I or Calculus
II (Calculus III is still being considered).
Unlike high school and college math classes, this Krsna
Calculus presentation will in its best attempt to glorify Sri Sri
Radha Krsna in a variety of ways with the use of various
problems in which you can use math, especially something
advanced as calculus, to serve Krsna. To further prove the
point, anything can be used for Krsna’s service.
Regardless of religion or Vedic references, all mathematical
information is to be considered valid.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Faith: Have faith in yourself! You can never feel the urge or that power to
tackle a good problem without knowing that you CAN do it!
Good amount of time: I studied calculus for 20 days and I took the AP
and got a 5. Was it easy? No! So, I recommend that you study these slides
while your teacher in school discuss these topics. Calculus will get very
difficult when you procrastinate! And don’t try cramming either!
A Graphing Calculator: To be honest, some teachers will enforce
graphing calculators. The AP exam says you must bring a graphing
calculator. Some professors do not even believe in graphing calculators. As
a calculus tutor, I would like you to have a graphing calculator. (TI-86
most preferably).
If you are a student not formally taking calculus, you do not really need a
graphing calculator. However, graphing calculator will be a powerful tool
to understand graphs, trajectories, concepts, and many more ideas
developed in this course.
PREREQUISITE
I hate to say this but calculus is the only math that
involves algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
together. If you don’t have these skills, I recommend
that you brush up on that before you take this course.
A pre-calculus class is very much needed. Pre-
calculus will make you remember all the algebra,
geometry, and trigonometry you have learned through
the years, and will add new concepts and new
techniques on how to solve problems. After
proficiency in pre-calculus, you can take calculus.
SOME DOS AND DO NOTS!
DO: Homework assignments! As writing will be an integral (laugh!)
portion of this course, practicing to write math will be of great use. Do
homework assignments and try challenging ones to challenge your
intelligence. Going over, reading, and writing will reinforce concepts
which will allow you to remember these things more fluently.
DO NOT: Put off studying and looking at these slides the night before
the exam. You have so much to worry about already! There is too much
material to cram in short-term memory. In addition, that material will be
used in future chapters. Just because you aced an exam in short term
memory doesn’t mean you can forget everything. You will need it at some
point or another.
DO NOT: Forget to chant Hare Krishna before the exam. And do not
forget these problems! Perhaps you can make a calculus test a rather bona
fide experience! ;-)
YOU SHOULD KNOW
You are expected to know the following before taking this course! If you
are unfamiliar with three or more concepts, review them until you have
great hold on the concepts! You cannot do this course without these
concepts!
