What is Twitter?

information in 140

Using Twitter
Why Tweet?
Imagine you have 498 followers on Twitter and you
send out a tweet about Gerald Allen for Senate. Say
5 of those followers retweet. Collectively, those 5
followers have 2,500 followers of their own. You
can see how Twitter allows you to easily get
information to thousands of people quickly and
easily.

What are hashtags?
Because Twitter provided no easy way to group tweets or
extra data, the Twitter community came up with their own
way: hashtags. A hashtag is similar to other web tags--it
helps add tweets to a category. Hashtags have the ‘hash’ or
‘pound’ symbol (#) preceding the tag. Hashtags can occur
anywhere in the tweet.
